Arts and drama

If you're interested in the arts or drama, we have a lot to offer - the College hosts regular workshops, exhibitions, and events.

Societies and clubs

Eliot's Face is a student-run art zine which accepts themed submissions of any kind from members of the College community. The zine is released termly as both an online and printed edition.

Film @ Jesus is a student-run film club which runs regular screenings and termly short film competitions. It aims to bring together like-minded individuals with a passion for film and foster a connected creative community.

Students, Fellows and staff are all welcome at ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ Art Club, which meets regularly during term time. Materials are provided by the College and the organisers set up a subject each week and offer informal support. Members can also use the space to work on their own projects.

ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ Drama Society runs regular writing and performance workshops in College, aiming to encourage creative talent within the community.

ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ Music Society holds many free recitals a term and several large orchestral concerts a year. They also organise the much-loved annual performance of The Snowman in Michaelmas term.

Led by author Emily Winslow, ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ Writing Club holds regular creative writing workshops for students, Fellows and staff during term time. Each session is a mixture of teaching, discussion, writing, and (optional) sharing, where members are encouraged to develop their personal writing style as well as experimenting with unfamiliar forms of writing.

Students run the annual John Hughes Arts Festival, an interdisciplinary celebration of openness, spectacle, and collaboration which usually includes an Open Hang Gallery featuring artwork submitted by students, artists, and friends of the College. The Gallery is accompanied by a range of creative workshops and events.

Exhibitions

We have a permanent sculpture exhibition in the grounds of the College.

Our undergraduates also have an art collection which includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints by a variety of artists, many well known. For a small deposit, students can borrow pieces from the collection to decorate their rooms.

ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ has been at the heart of my Cambridge experience. I chose the College because I was impressed by its distinctive blend of academic rigour and extracurricular achievement. A College for all-rounders, Jesus is a lively and rewarding place to study. I couldn’t be happier here! Friendly and engaged, the Jesus postgraduate community never ceases to impress me. At ease with themselves and forever curious, my peers go out of their way to cultivate a sense of camaraderie. After a day of leafing through old manuscripts at the National...

What first attracted me to ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ was its reputation and history, central location without being touristy, and the postgraduate housing options. When I arrived at Jesus I was so pleased to find the partner accommodation was spacious, affordable, and situated very close to the college, allowing us to really take advantage of the facilities. We especially enjoyed The Roost, the nicest of all the college bars, doubling as a café during the day - ideal for studying or meeting up with groups - and a lively pub in the...

It is a well-accepted opinion in Cambridge that ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ is the best college and no other college even comes a distant second. Its sports grounds are enormous, its buildings are mesmerising, its libraries are rich, its chapel is the oldest, its accommodation is the best value for money, its international community is diverse, its religious circles are the most welcoming, and its members are the smartest, kindest and the friendliest. It is one of the central colleges that aims to offer three years accommodation to postgraduates, and has comparatively...

I chose ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ because of the great mixture of undergraduates and postgraduates, and when I first visited I thought it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen! The sense of community in Jesus has had an enormous impact on my experience here. Whether you need help, advice, cheering up or even just a chat there is always someone there to put a smile on your face. From the MCR committee to the Porters, the canteen staff to the gardeners, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Jesus also...

ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ has been a great home for me during my PhD. I chose ÌÀÍ·ÌõÔ´´ for a number of reasons – first, the location. We are central enough to be within easy walking distance of most things, but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle (and tourists in summer!). The College also has extensive grounds, with amenities like the hockey pitch, football pitch and tennis courts all on site. Secondly, the accommodation is some of the best I’ve seen in Cambridge. My house was newly renovated when...
