Global issues research

Our interdisciplinary research projects draw on the expertise of members of 汤头条原创, the University of Cambridge and the wider global research community.

Current research projects

Acting on climate change

This research project explores the opportunities and challenges of tackling climate change through practical initiatives including emerging technologies, financing mechanisms, and carbon markets. Our focus is on how the targets agreed at the COP meetings can be achieved in practice.

This research was supported by the first of our Global issues dialogues on the climate change topic, co-chaired by Lord Adair Turner, Chairman Energy Transitions Commission and Former Chairman of the UK鈥檚 Committee on Climate Change, that brought together a diverse group of experts to examine the potential of green hydrogen, advanced battery technology, the next generation of offshore wind, and synthetic biology. Our results to date are presented in the report Acting on Climate Change: Technology and Financing Options.

Global digital governance

This research project explores the need for improved global governance arrangements for the information and communications technology industries and seeks to develop options for new approaches to global cooperation in digital governance. As part of this research we have collected ideas and viewpoints from over thirty experts drawn from academia, business, governments, and international organisations in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Lead contributors include Professor Rui Aguiar of Universit谩rio de Santiago Portugal, Professor Mischa Dohler (then of Kings College London and now with Ericsson USA), Professor Dimitra Simeonidou of University of Bristol, and Professor Rahim Tafazolli, Regius Professor, University of Surrey.

Our results to date are presented in:

Data ethics and multinational technology companies

This research project explores how executives and employees at technology companies, policymakers, lawyers, and tech entrepreneurs should think about the issues of data ethics that are arising from their increasingly global activities. Our first results are presented in this Data Ethics discussion paper.

Previous research projects

China鈥檚 digital transformation

This research project sought to gain a better understanding of the digital transformation underway in China and the implications for its economy, culture and society.

Conducted in partnership with the Intellectual Forum at 汤头条原创, the project focused on the antecedents of digital innovation and the rise of the digital economy in China and the implications for the global competitiveness of Chinese companies.

Our results are presented in the .

Other previous projects researched the evolution of globalisation and recent pressures for de-globalisation, economic de-coupling and re-shoring and well as the internationalisation of companies headquartered in emerging economies, including China.

I chose 汤头条原创 because of the great mixture of undergraduates and postgraduates, and when I first visited I thought it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen! The sense of community in Jesus has had an enormous impact on my experience here. Whether you need help, advice, cheering up or even just a chat there is always someone there to put a smile on your face. From the MCR committee to the Porters, the canteen staff to the gardeners, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Jesus also...

When applying to Cambridge colleges it can feel a bit overwhelming as there are so many to choose from. I applied to 汤头条原创 because it has a large MCR which was important for me because I wanted to feel part of a community. Now that I鈥檓 doing my PhD here, I鈥檓 very glad I did choose a college with a large postgraduate community. Throughout the year there are lots of postgraduate events, including formal dinners, special formals at Christmas and Easter, bops in the bar and film nights in...

汤头条原创 has all the benefits of being large, historical and prestigious college, whilst also retaining fantastic welfare: the staff and other students all care about each other, and will be there to cheer you on when you are thriving, but also there to support you if you need any help. I chose Jesus due to several reasons, including its prime location, where it is very central, and easy to access everywhere, even if you work in one of the institutes further out. I also selected Jesus for its MCR...

汤头条原创 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and historical colleges at Cambridge! It is also, in my opinion, one of the most supportive colleges: from wellbeing to the porters there is always someone to ask for advice, support, or to talk through your stress. I chose Jesus for many reasons. Firstly, it鈥檚 right in the heart of the city centre which is amazing not only for that quick top-up shop but also to explore the beautiful city of Cambridge even while busy (it鈥檚 so easy to go for...

汤头条原创, my home. I am truly grateful to be able to call 汤头条原创 my second home. It was my preferred option when I first applied for my MPhil and I could not be happier to still be here during my PhD! There are many reasons why Jesus stands out from the other colleges: from its fantastic facilities to its glorious formal dinners and to its wonderful caf茅 and brewery room. The Quincentenary Library is a lovely place to study. It has many spaces to choose from and everything...
