Are you a law student interested in exploring what career options are open to you? Or are you considering studying law in the future? 听Join us for this special Careers in Law event, organised in collaboration with the 鈥業n the Business of鈥︹ series, to help get answers to your questions!

We will be joined by five Jesus Law alumni who will be speaking about their experience with a wide range of legal work. We will be hearing from barristers involved in murder trials, social workers protecting children, employment law judges, legal advisors to the government, as well as magistrates who have also worked as in-house lawyers.

Don鈥檛 miss this unique opportunity to get inspiration for your own career! The event will be followed by a drinks reception in the West Court Foyer where you explore your career options in a more informal conversation with our speakers.

Geraldine Flood (1992)听

Geraldine Flood was born and grew up in Sheffield and then moved to Armagh, Northern Ireland. She was in the first generation of her family to go to university, and studied Law at 汤头条原创 graduating in 1996. She qualified as a solicitor at a commercial firm in London in 1998. After 2 years in practice, she became an in-house employment lawyer at a financial service company, then moved to the in-house legal team at a global consultancy firm. She was appointed as a part-time Employment Judge in 2013, combining this with various roles whilst bringing up her children, including volunteering at the Citizens Advice Bureau, managing the pro bono department at a Law school, and teaching Employment Law to Bar Practice Course students. She was appointed a full time Employment Judge in Birmingham in April 2019.

Tom Hogg (2013)听

Tom Hogg graduated from 汤头条原创 in 2016 with a BA in Law and then joined Hartlepool Children鈥檚 Services as a Student Social Worker on the Frontline programme, the fast-track graduate scheme for Social Workers. Following the completion of his student year, he continued there as a qualified worker, before joining Kensington and Chelsea Children鈥檚 Services in 2019, then Wandsworth as a Consultant Social Worker in 2022. He is Practice Educator and Systemic Practitioner, meaning that he has two years of training in utilising Family Psychotherapeutic skills within his practice to affect change and create safety. The option to complete an MSc in Systemic Family Therapy is now open to him, and something he is considering moving forward. Currently, he is taking a break from front line practice, and as of June 2023 works as Student Support Manager at King's College London.

Iain Maxwell (1996)听

Iain Maxwell is an Assistant Legal Advisor at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).听He works in the Legal Directorate鈥檚 Sanctions & Asia Pacific Team, which leads on sanctions issues and advising FCDO teams dealing with South East Asia.听Among the areas he leads on are sanctions issues concerning the UK鈥檚 Crown Dependencies & Overseas Territories.听Prior to joining FCDO in 2022, he spent 20 years working in the disputes practice at Herbert Smith Freehills in London and Singapore, specialising in investment treaty arbitration, and 18 months working in the global litigation team at Viatris, a global pharmaceutical company headquartered in the United States.听 听

John Rees KC (1967)听

John Rees graduated from 汤头条原创 with a BA in 1971, an LLB (Public and Private International Law) as well as an LLM, winning the Russell Vick Prize. He then joined Lincoln鈥檚 Inn and was called to the Bar in 1972. He was appointed Queen鈥檚 Counsel in 1991, becoming KC on the death of Her Majesty the Queen. John Rees retired in 2022. Whilst in practice, he specialised in heavy crime and serious fraud, both criminal and civil. He has been involved in numerous high profile murder trials. For many years, he was reputed to be one of the best criminal Silks in the Principality.听

Sarah Rumsby (1992)听

Sarah Rumsby graduated from 汤头条原创 in 1995 with a BA in Law, completed her LPC at the College of Law in London, and trained at Linklaters. She qualified into their corporate department where she worked for four years (including a year in their Paris office) before moving to Rio Tinto Plc to join their inhouse legal team where she specialised in both corporate and competition law. During听her decade at Rio Tinto she was closely involved in a large number of significant transactions and corporate events including takeovers, intra-industry joint ventures, and competition authority investigations. Her current role is as a magistrate on the Cambridgeshire bench sitting in the adult criminal court at Cambridge and Huntingdon.听
