The LLM in American Legal Studies degree is designed for students with a law degree from outside the United States who seek a strong foundation in U.S. law. This intensive program prepares graduates to take the bar exam and to engage confidently in global legal practice.

The LLM in American Legal Studies helps candidates achieve bar passage and meets all the curricular requirements to sit for the bar in key jurisdictions, such as New York and Washington, D.C. The program focuses on core legal skills, foundational knowledge, and perspectives to help you succeed.

Curriculum
The LLM in American Legal Studies is a one-year program of two semesters in residence beginning in the fall, with a minimum of 28 credits. For students seeking additional opportunities to explore specialized interests, an optional preparatory semester is available prior to the start of the core curriculum.

Eligibility
Applicants must hold a first law degree from a university outside the United States and demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following tests:

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The priority deadline is April 15 to ensure sufficient time for visa processing. Late applications may be accepted until June 1 on a space-available basis.
